You’ve probably seen the images or memes online: strange, powerful beings made of interlocking wheels, covered in eyes, with multiple sets of wings.
They look nothing like the gentle, winged people on Christmas cards—and that's the whole point.
This imagery, often called "Biblically Accurate Angels," comes from powerful, symbolic visions described by prophets like Ezekiel and Isaiah. These aren't the only types of angels described in the Bible (many do appear as men), but these specific "throne guardian" angels, like the Seraphim and Ophanim, are in a class of their own.
So... Why All the Eyes and Wheels?
These descriptions weren't meant to be a literal field guide. They were visions that tried to put an unexplainable, divine reality into human words.
The Many Wings (Seraphim): Isaiah 6 describes angels with six wings: two to cover their faces (out of reverence for God's holiness), two to cover their feet, and two to fly.
The Wheels-within-Wheels (Ophanim): Ezekiel 1 describes these as "wheels full of eyes" that could move in any direction without turning.
This imagery represents God's awesome, all-knowing, and all-powerful nature. These beings are not "tame"; they are guardians of a holy, transcendent God. Their appearance is so overwhelming that the first thing they often say to humans is, "Be not afraid."
Why We Made It a Design
We created the "Biblically Accurate Angel" design for one simple reason: it's a powerful reminder that our faith is not small, safe, or tame.
It's a reaction against a "comfortable" faith. It's a symbol of the awe-inspiring, holy, and powerful reality of God.
This design is one of our boldest conversation starters. It's a modern way to express a deep, ancient truth—that the God we worship is holy, all-knowing, and truly awesome.
We hope it's a reminder for you, and a great way to start a conversation with someone who asks, "What is that?"
